Murder trial of former police firearms officer Anthony Long for the shooting of Azelle Rodney to start this Monday 8th June at 10 am
5 June 2015
The trial will take place at:
Central Criminal Court
The trial is due to last for 6 weeks.
Azelle Rodney was shot dead by Anthony Long on 30 April 2005 in Hale Lane, Edgware, during a Metropolitan Police firearms operation. A Public Inquiry was set up to consider the circumstances of Mr Rodney’s death, which heard public evidence in 2012.
The Chairman of the Azelle Rodney Inquiry produced his report in July 2013. Anthony Long was charged with Mr Rodney’s murder in July 2014.
Please note the family of Azelle Rodney and INQUEST will not be making any further statements until the conclusion of the trial.
‘I’ve been a long-time supporter of the crucial work that INQUEST does. Until there is legislation to change the way inquests are conducted and the provision of legal and psychological support to the bereaved of those who died in custody, INQUEST will continue to be a vital source of support for families.’
