Family campaigns

Families often tell us that when someone they love has died in state custody or care, they want to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. We’ve compiled some helpful resources all about campaigning and fighting for change.

Setting up a campaign

Building powerful campaigns and movements requires resources. Check out these useful resources and toolkits below for anyone looking to set up a campaign and create change.

Engaging with the media

Speaking to journalists is an opportunity to have your voice heard, advocate for your loved one and tell the truth about what happened to them. Raising awareness can have a positive impact and help bring about change.

However, speaking to the media can also be difficult, exposing and scary. Remember, it is not the only way to advocate for your loved one and you only need to engage if, and when, you feel comfortable.

Please get in touch with our dedicated media team who can offer advice, suggest friendly journalists and answer any questions.

An alternative way to share your story

A more informal way of sharing your story and what happened to your loved one is to write a blog post for INQUEST.

Ongoing family campaigns

INQUEST has always recognised the importance of and worked alongside individual family campaigns. We do not set up or run campaigns ourselves, but we provide support for, and links to, independent family campaign websites.

If you are looking for inspiration or other family campaigns to get involved in, tap the arrow below to reveal a list of ongoing family campaign websites. If you are a family or interested party that works with INQUEST and would like your campaign to be listed, please contact us.
