Jade Mutua was 22 years old when she was tragically struck by a passing Metropolitan police car on 13 August 2019. The inquest into her death opens on Monday 19 July 2021.
Jade was a pedestrian waiting for her friend when she was hit by the marked police car on Warwick Road, Kensington. She was taken to hospital and placed on life support, but died two days later.
Jade’s family described her as a bright and beautiful young woman. She was training to be a social worker because she wanted to help disadvantaged children.
Jade’s family hope that the inquest will explore:
- The circumstances leading up to the collision.
- The actions of the police officer driving the police vehicle.
- The emergency response.
Jermaine Laxmidas, Jade’s father, said: “My daughter’s innocent life was tragically and violently ended. I still haven’t had a proper explanation about what happened. It has been a long time and I don’t have any answers. I believe facts about what happened that night are being hidden.”

The coroner has ruled that Article 2 is not engaged in Jade’s inquest and therefore the family are not eligible for exceptional case funding to cover the cost of having representation at the final inquest. Other Interested persons represented are the Metropolitan Police.
